AGARWOOD (Aetoxylon sympetalum), Indonesia. 10ml Size.

Oudh, Agarwood, Aloeswood or ‘Gaharu’ is obtained from a number of tree species, with the complex chemical compounds varying greatly even from region to region with the same species. Agar is formed in the heartwood of trees when they become infected with a type of mould. Prior to infection the heartwood is odourless, however as the infection progresses the tree produces a dark aromatic resin called aloes or agar (as well as gaharu, jinko, oud, or oodh) in response to the attack, which results in a very dense, dark, resin-embedded heartwood which is valued in many cultures for its distinctive fragrance and used for incense and perfumery.

First-grade Agarwood is one of the most expensive natural raw materials in the world, generally coming from the Aquilaria family. Agarwood can also be obtained from the Aetoxylon Sympetalum (this oil) which is known as ‘Gaharu Buaya’ and has a light, sweet woody scent – an excellent way to enjoy Agarwood without the expensive price tag found with Aquilaria class oils.

Agarwood and its oil have a deep spiritual history and significance, mentioned in some of the oldest spiritual texts. The Buddha taught that the fragrance of burning Agarwood is the “scent of Nirvana” (the state of attaining Divinity). In Tibetan medicine Agarwood is used to treat emotional, nervous and psychological issues through its ability to induce a deep meditative state. In meditation, Agarwood is used to clear the mind and instil inner peace, positive energy and enhanced awareness. Ayurvedic practitioners use the oil to provide spiritual and emotional benefits and strengthen the power of thought. Also believed to be helpful for insomnia and to have aphrodisiac properties.
