CYPRESS (Cupressus sempervirens), Spain.

There are many species of Cypress from around the world – it’s generally recommended that you use Cupressus sempervirens in Aromatherapy.

Cypress Oil is known to strengthen an overburdened nervous system and help restore calm. It has astringent and vaso-constrictor properties so is beneficial for circulatory problems such as varicose veins and haemorrhoids. Its antispasmodic properties are useful for asthma, whooping cough and spasmodic coughing – Dr Valnet suggested a few drops of Cypress under the pillow to alleviate coughs. Cypress also has a regulating effect on the menstrual cycle, relieving heavy periods.

In skincare Cypress acts as a deodorant and astringent, and is useful for excessive perspiration.
