GERANIUM (Pelargonium graveolens), Egypt.

Pelargonium graveolens is a perennial shrub with small pink flowers, which grows up to a metre high. The aroma of Geranium oil is sweet and heavy, a little like rose with a minty overtone.

Geranium oil has a balancing effect on the nervous system. It can help relieve anxiety & depression and lift the spirits, and is ideal for treating stress. Its stimulating effect on the adrenal cortex has a regulatory effect on the hormonal system, and so is useful for treating PMS and menopausal problems such as depression and heavy periods.

Geranium is also a lymphatic stimulant which can help relieve congestion, fluid retention and swollen ankles. The oil is a diuretic and can be used for the treatment of jaundice and gallstones. It has cicatrisant and antiseptic properties, making it an excellent remedy for burns, wounds and ulcers. In skincare Geranium is useful for all skin conditions as it balances sebum.
