MELISSA TRUE (Melissa officinalis), India.

Melissa oil comes from the bushy sweet lemon scented Melissa herb, which is also commonly known as ‘Lemon Balm’. True Melissa oil is an expensive oil as it takes up to 3 tonnes of plant matter to produce 500ml of essential oil. Many sellers adulterate this expensive oil with cheaper oils such as Lemon or Lemongrass; Melissa ‘True’ is the pure unadulterated oil of Melissa with no other oils or chemicals added.

Melissa oil has many worthwhile properties including sedative and anti-viral qualities. Studies in Germany have found melissa to be effective against viruses associated with influenza, herpes, smallpox and mumps. Melissa may be used with Rose oil to treat Herpes simplex (cold sore infections) and Herpes zoster (shingles). It may also be used to settle upset stomachs, being recommended for nausea and indigestion, and may help with migraines. Many herbalists have also praised Melissa’s uplifting and antidepressant properties.
